In 2015, ACTRC conducted a review and prepared a set of recommendations regarding adoption of international large scale assessments for the Philippines. This review took into consideration global experiences of countries engaging in such enterprises, identified the assessments of relevance to the Philippines, discussed the opportunities and risks inherent in engaging in such enterprises, and explored scheduling and planning issues. The review was instrumental in DepEd deciding on its large scale assessment program for the next six years, and was included in DepEd’s formal documentation around its processes.
ACTRC provided support to the Philippines Bureau of Educational Assessment (BEA) in the early years of Philippines’ participation in the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM), Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). This support included working collaboratively with BEA on these projects including item review, participation in field trials and their evaluation. This work was funded by BEST in 2016-2017.
