Louie Cagasan Jr. recently served as one of the resource persons in a national conference held on May 21-23, 2014 in Baguio City, Philippines. It was a simultaneous event that featured the 1st National Conference on Computerized Statistical Data Analysis and the 4th National Conference on Test Development.
Consistent with the latter conference’s theme \’Utilizing Advanced Technology in Measuring the Academic Performance of K-12 and College Learners\’, Louie presented his material \’Using CTT and IRT Approaches in Generating Item Statistics\’. This seminar workshop included a brief review of the Classical Test Theory (CTT) and important concepts about Item Response Theory (IRT). Participants were given a lecture on the generation and interpretation of item statistics using CTT as well as the generation and interpretation of item statistics using different IRT models. The comparison between CTT and IRT was another topic in the session. Finally, Louie shared the possible use of IRT results for instruction and student intervention.
The conference was attended by a number of educators and researchers from different schools and universities in the Philippines, and was organized by the Eins Review & Statistical Consultancy Center, a private consulting agency of academic and business organizations.
