Assessment and Reporting Practices that Support Inclusive Education for Students with Additional Learning Needs

Dr Kerry Woods presented a week-long workshop in early October 2013 on the use of formative assessment for students with additional learning needs. The workshop drew on a suite of online teacher observation instruments and resources which was created during a five-year collaborative research project at the University of Melbourne; these materials are known as SWANS. The SWANS package allows teachers to be able to plan, assess and monitor teaching interventions for students with additional needs. A students’ readiness to learn is linked with appropriate teaching strategies and curriculum advice. The workshops focused on inclusive education in the Philippines and started work on a Philippines-based version of SWANS. For more information read the SWANS in the Philippines course overview.
