A seminar-lecture titled Multilingualism and Education for All (EFA): A Look into the Global and Local Contexts was held on December 6, 2014 at the Benitez Training Center at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. This event was organized by the Reading, Teaching in the Early Grades, Arts, and Language Education (REGALE) Cluster of the College of Education. It featured consecutive presentations by Dr Romylyn Metila of ACTRC and the UP College of Education and Dr Jessica Ball, a renowned expert in Early Childhood Education and Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) from the University of Vancouver.
Dr Metila\’s presentation entitled Understanding MTB-MLE Implementation in the Philippines: Strategies and Challenges presented findings related to the Instruction dimension of ACTRC\’s MTB-MLE study. The lecture-seminar was presented to an audience of faculty and graduate and undergraduate students from UP and other institutions. Dr. Ball highlighted the significance of ACTRC\’s MTB-MLE study not only in the Philippines but also in the international academic and research fields of multilingual education. She encouraged the audience to await and learn from the results of the study which is projected to culminate in May 2015.
