ACTRC Research Forum

Around 400 students, teachers, education specialists, researchers, and other stakeholders attended a Research Forum organized by the Assessment, Curriculum and Technology Research Centre on July 18, 2015. It was held at the NISMED Auditorium, University of the Philippines Diliman.

The event disseminated research findings from studies conducted by the Assessment, Curriculum and Technology Research Centre in the field of education. Dr. Dina Ocampo, DepEd Undersecretary for Programs and Projects, welcomed the guests with an inspiring message to be passionate about education and research. 

Four presentations were delivered:

Longitudinal Study of Learning Achievement of Students in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (LearnARMM). Dr Esther Care explained the study’s approach to assessment and discussed how research data can be used at the system, school and teacher level. Maria Hazelle Preclaro discussed issues encountered during the translation of the project’s assessment tools to different languages and Dr Eufracio Abaya shared some results from the case study that might explain differential student learning outcomes. Understanding Best Practices of MTB-MLE in the Philippines. The MTB-MLE team –  Dr Alan Williams, Dr Romylyn Metila and Lea Pradilla –  presented the findings in the first three phases of the MTB-MLE study. These include the major challenges, strategies, and drivers of success in the implementation of MTB-MLE in terms of its language, instruction, materials, and program components. Presentation Slides

Science Inquiry Skills Test: Development, Analysis, and Feedback to Teachers. Dr Marlene Ferido explained a number of processes in the development of science questions that assess the inquiry skills of students across a range of difficulties. Presentation Slides

The Philippines’ Approach to assessment of 21st Century Skills. Dr Esther Care and Joesal Marabel talked about the activities undertaken by the Department of Education to assess 21st century skills including a review of 21st century frameworks, a review of national frameworks, identification of common themes, and alignment with the Philippine core educational themes.
