ACTRC holds translation workshops

ACTRC held two translation workshops on October 5 and 6, 2019 at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. This was part of  preparations for the anticipated data collection activities for the Baseline Study on Language Match and Teacher Assignment in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Instruments that were originally developed by the team in English were translated into the different major and minor languages spoken in BARMM, namely Meranao, Maguindanaon, Yakan, Teduray, Tausug, Sinama, Iranun, Hiligaynon, Chavacano, Sinugbuanong Binisaya, Pangasinan, Iloko, and Tagalog. Two translators for each language were engaged to translate the research tools so that they match the language/s spoken by Kinder to Grade 3 (K-3) pupils during administration. A number of schools will be visited randomly across the different provinces in BARMM including Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi. This collection of data will happen in November to December 2019, and will also involve K-3 teachers, school heads, and Mother Tongue-based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) Coordinators from schools and division offices.
